Montgomery Hospital Medical Center offers a wide variety of community programs and support groups. Below are programs currently available in 2008. For more information on our community events and programs, call 610-270-2481.
Childbirth Education Call 610-270-2020
The maternity department at MHMC offers a variety of childbirth education sessions and refresher, parenting, breastfeeding and sibling classes for new and expectant parents and siblings. There is a nominal fee for some classes. All parents are invited to participate, including those who are delivering elsewhere. Classes scheduled for July include: Childbirth Part I (Labor and Birth) at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 5; Childbirth Part II (Comfort Measures for Labor) at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19; and Newborn Care and Parenting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 24. All classes are held in the 5 East Conference Room in the hospital. For more information on maternity services or classes, call 610-270-2020. Pre-registration is required for all classes.
CPR & First Aid Courses Call 610-270-2313 Montgomery Hospital is an authorized American Heart Association Community Training Center and offers a variety of CPR and First Aid classes for beginners to experienced health care providers. Included are:
CPR for Family & Friends: non-credentialed introductory course; basic adult or infant & child CPR. Call (610) 270-2313 to schedule.
Heart Saver AED: renders 2-yr Certification; adult CPR and automated external defibrillators offered lst Saturday of each month.
Healthcare Provider: training for physicians and other healthcare providers; renewal offered 3rd Thursday of each month (for those with current CPR cards). A training class for those without cards is slated for the third Friday of each month.
Heart Saver CPR: training for lay rescuers, child care workers, etc. Adult and child CPR is scheduled for the 1st Saturday of each month; infant & child CPR is also offered on Saturdays.
Heimlich Maneuver: training for restaurant workers and owners and at schools via school assemblies. All available as needed.
Safe Sitter Course: Call 610-270-2503
This two day course teaches safe and nurturing child care techniques, behavior management skills and appropriate responses to medical emergencies. Each two day session is held from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the hospital. The fee is $30. The class schedule for 2008 will be announced shortly. Cancer Support Groups: Call 610-270-2703
Cancer Support Group meets the second Wednesday of each month at the Montgomery Cancer Center from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
The Breast Cancer Support group meets the first Thursday of each month for one hour, beginning at 12 p.m. The meetings take place in the third floor atrium, located at the Montgomery Hospital Professional Building on 1330 Powell Street. Meetings are open to anyone undergoing treatment for breast cancer, either at the Montgomery Cancer Center or elsewhere. Registration is not necessary. Laryngectomy Support Group, the "Let's Talk Club," meets the second Thursday of each month in the Cancer Center Conference Room, located on the third floor of the Montgomery Hospital Professional Building. Prostate Cancer Support Group meets the second Thursday of each month from 7 p.m.-8 p.m. in the Radiation Oncology Department Lobby at the Montgomery Cancer Center. The group is open to Montgomery patients as well as patients diagnosed and/or treated elsewhere.
The Scleroderma Group meets the fourth Wednesday of the month from 6:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. and includes family members, as well as patients. Call to verify dates.
The American Cancer Society’s Post-Mastectomy Fitting Clinic is available by appointment.
“I Can Cope” is an American Cancer Society’s program for cancer patients and their families. This is a six-week program. Registration required.
Bereavement Support
Home Care & Hospice, 25 W. Fornance St., Norristown, holds 6-week sessions periodically throughout the year. Call 610-313-5015.
Exercise & Support Programs
Arthritis Aquatics Program meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Call 610-270-2400.
Cardiac Exercise Maintenance Program meets frequently throughout the week. Call 610-270-2002. Weight Management Program meets on a regular basis. Call 610-270-2002 for specific information.
