Interventional radiology is a branch of medicine in which physicians treat diseases non-operatively through small catheters guided to the target by radiological imaging. Many of these procedures have replaced traditional surgery since they are safer and more cost effective. Problems of the heart, kidney, liver, and other internal organs can benefit from treatment through interventional radiology.
Until recently these procedures were available only at the largest teaching hospitals. Montgomery Hospital has a team of interventional radiologists on service here in your community. Among the treatments available are:
- Percutaneous vertebroplasty to treat spinal compression fractures
- Uterine artery embolization for the treatment of symptomatic uterine fibroids
- Percutaneous treatment of peripheral vascular disease
- Placement of venous access catheters and ports
- Venous thrombosis treatment
- Dialysis access management
- Image guided biopsy and drainage procedures
