| Fast Work through Fast Track
A recent winter day started out like any other day of the year for long-time Norristown resident and mother, Bernadette Hoisington. After a day of running errands, she wanted to attend ceremony where her brother was being honored by the National Guard. In her haste to get packages from her car, she closed her van slider door on her pointer finger. She knew within seconds she was in for a trip to the ER. Montgomery Hospital's ER was just a five minute drive. Entering the ER she was immediately triaged and seated in the waiting room. Ten minutes later she was escorted to an exam room and seen by an MHMC certified nurse practitioner.
"I remember telling the nurse how upset I was that I would miss my brother's ceremony and how long our family had waited for him to get this honor," said Bernadette. "From that moment on it was obvious the entire staff was doing everything they could to get me diagnosed, treated and released so I could make it to the ceremony."
Bernadette's injury was handled from triage to discharge in under one hour through the hospital's Fast Track Program. Staffed by certified nurse practitioners, non-emergency cases can be diagnosed, treated and released in under an hour. The program is currently running 7 days a week from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. " Everyone from the nursing staff to patient registration was knowledgeable, efficient and friendly," remarked Bernadette. |
