| Staying Local for Cancer Treatment
Peter Carfagno was 34 years old when he was diagnosed with cancer. A long-time resident of Norristown, Peter was diagnosed by a local urologist who referred him to the Montgomery Hospital Cancer Center for evaluation and treatment. Peter listened to the treatment options offered to him by Estella Graeffe, MD, a radiation oncologist at the MH Cancer Center. He knew he would seek a second opinion at an area research hospital. When the diagnosis and treatment plan came back the same, he returned to Montgomery. "I was committed to the four weeks of radiation and was relieved I had only to travel a few miles for my daily treatment," said Peter. After touring the facility and meeting the staff, a bond was formed. "The entire staff, including Dr. Graeffe were knowledgeable, comforting and reassuring at a time that was anything but," says Peter.
Peter returned to the Cancer Center every three months that first year for blood work, a chest x-ray and an exam. "The treatment protocol, follow up and an overall care I received was only matched by the empathy and positive support I received from physicians, nurses and other Cancer Center professionals," said Peter.
