Osteoporosis, also known as brittle bone disease, affects one in four women and one in eight men over the age of 50. It results from a thinning and weakening of bone due to calcium loss. In individuals with osteoporosis, bone loss can lead to spinal fractures, which can gradually collapse the bones of the spine and cause height loss, pain and a deformed back (dowager's hump).
A Dexa scan is a simple, brief test to measure bone density in the hip and spine to help your physician detect osteoporosis. In a matter of minutes, we'll have a computer printout with your results. If osteoporosis is indicated we can provide you with a variety of helpful resources. |
