Community members, medical staff, hospital employees, local organizations, and corporations have been giving a "gift a year" to help, for example, cover the difference between the actual cost of treating a patient and what the hospital receives in insurance reimbursement. Contributions can also be made to benefit a particular area of the institution. (Please see the "Gifts for Special Funds" for more details on these options.)
Annual giving is important for many reasons:
- Gifts may be designated to meet the hospital's greatest needs at the time or to support a particular area of the hospital.
- The funds are immediately spendable - $1,000 in annual giving equals the income from $10,000 in the endowment.
- Gifts from within the hospital community are a barometer of support for the institution and provide an assurance of the hospital's worthiness of "outside" philanthropy.
- It is recurrent. The foundation can count on receiving these funds year after year.
Annual giving serves the need for liquid, spendable funds that enhance the healthcare services Montgomery Hospital Medical Center patients and their families receive. At the same time, the annual nature of the gifts allows the foundation to plan expenditures for future years.
